Where to buy?
Only the exchange bureaus authorized by the Brazilian Central Bank can do exchange tradings. Buy or sell foreign exchanges on the black market is illegal, and who does may incur in a penal sanction.
What documents should I present to buy foreign currency?
To purchase amounts until USD 3.000,00, you should submit your ID, and CPF besides provides us with your address and telephone (if Brazilian). Whether you are a foreigner, you may show your passport and give us the address and the phone of your hosting.
Do I have any receipt?
It is essential to demand your bought receipt and always keep it with you. It proves the origin of your money and the customs agents may request it.
Is there any limit to buy currency?
There is no limit to buy foreign currency, although the maximum you can buy in cash is USD 1.000,00.
How can I pay?
The payment might be made in different manners, although, to amounts above USD 1.000,00, the law demands the payment made by bank transfer.
Leaving the country, what should I state?
Who comes to or leaves from Brazil carrying more than USD 10.000,00 in cash (of any currency) is obligated to present to customs agents the Electronic Statement of Travellers Capital Goods (e-DBV), which you must have made previously on the website www.edbv.receita.fazenda.gov.br
Should I state foreign exchange at my Income tax?
If you buy foreign currency to international travelling, is not necessary to declare it. Otherwise, ask your financial accountant.
What are the rules for foreigners?
Outlanders who come to Brazil can exchange your money for Real. However, they must keep their receipt to make the reverse operation when leaving the country. The limit to bought in cash is the same applied to Brazilians, which is USD 1.000,00.
